BRIEF HISTORY
Casiguran was derived from the word kasiguruhan, which means “assurance,”“safety,” or “defense,” a fortress or sanctuary for sailing ships during stormy weather.
Dumagats or Agtas were the earliest inhabitants of Casiguran. On June 13, 1609, Franciscan missionaries founded Casiguran as a mission village. Esteban Jacob became the first mayor during the Spanish regime and Mario Peña during the American colonial period.
Sometime in 1942 to 1945, the combined troops of US military and Philippine Commonwealth Army engaged the imperial Japanese forces in the Battle of Casiguran, Battle of Baler, Siege of Dinalungan, and Liberation of San Luis and liberated these
Japanese-occupied towns.
Jesus Moral became the first mayor after World War II and immediately succeeded by Dalmacio Angara who served from 1947 to 1948 after the liberation.
Casiguran became a municipality of the Sub-province of Aurora on June 14, 1951 by virtue of Republic Act No. 648 signed by President Elpidio R. Quirino. Subsequently, the barrios of Dilasag and Dinalungan were separated from Casiguran on June 21, 1959 and on June 18, 1966 respectively.
