BRIEF HISTORY:
As early settlers recounted, many Dumagats tribes once lived in the area. Thus, the names of most of its landmarks were Dumagat words and expressions. Accordingly, the name Dingalan came from Dumagatphrase which means “by the river of Galan.” The municipality lies where several rivers and creeks flow.
Dingalan was a former sitio of Barrio San Luis of the municipality of Baler.
On June 16, 1956, it became a municipal district under Republic Act No. 1536
signed by President Ramon D. Magsaysay It became a municipal district on June 16, 1956 under Republic Act No. 1536. On June 16, 1962, it was converted
into a regular municipality and separated from the municipality of Baler under Republic Act No. 3490 signed by
President Diosdado P. Macapagal.
Tomas Angara was appointed the first mayor who served from 1956 to 1959 and Calixto V. Pronto, the first elected mayor from 1960 to 1963.
